Background of Bekelcha Transport Share Company
Bekelcha Transport Share Company (BTSC) is one of the prominent freight transport companies in Ethiopia, established as part of the government’s effort to restructure and modernize the transport sector. The company traces its origins to the early 1990s, when the former Ethiopian Freight Transport Corporation was divided into several smaller enterprises. As a result of this restructuring, Bekelcha Transport Enterprise was formed around 1994 E.C (2001/2002 G.C) and later reorganized into a share company during Ethiopia’s privatization program. The company’s head office is located in Adama , Oromia Regional State, about 100 km southeast of Addis Ababa, strategically positioned along the main corridor linking Ethiopia to the Port of Djibouti. This location makes it a key player in import and export logistics within the country.
The name “Bekelcha” is derived from the Afaan Oromo language, meaning “Morning Star,” symbolizing growth, hope, and a leading role in the transport industry.Since its establishment, the company has focused primarily on road freight transportation services, handling inland cargo as well as import and export goods across Ethiopia and to international routes such as Djibouti. Over time, its operations expanded to include: Warehouse and customs clearance support services, Fuel supply and station services, Vehicle maintenance and mechanical services, Driver training programs for different license levels Parking and logistics support services
